Nicholle Overkamp is a personal finance expert who’s heart is on fire for helping women to build wealth, grow in confidence handling their money, and start to uncover their own self-worth. She left her toxic, mainly masculine financial firm after her desire to help and inspire women to build wealth was hampered, laughed at and minimized.
After trying to and trying to do what she wanted with working with women and money, Nicholle up and quit. She jokes that this was a super immature decision, but it’s all worked out! In 2012 she founded her own firm, a place where she practices holistic financial planning for women specifically – a judgment-free zone where women can come as they are and feel comfortable with learning about how to own their money.
Nicholle works with female clients to help them to overcome their insecurity and grow in confidence in their ability to manage their money. Why female clients, you ask? Firstly, she doesn’t want any woman to experience what she walked through in her journey to get where they are. Secondly, she loves the feeling of transformation of a woman from not being confident with an unhelpful money mindset to feeling so capable, knowing what to do and overhauling their money mindset. Working with Nicholle helps women to uncover their power, start to use it for the good of the world and she is so honored to play a role and exist alongside this rebirth of her female clients.
Let’s clearly define Holistic Financial Planning – it’s not the selling of insurance, it’s not just investments, it’s not selling or pushing products – it’s a unique approach to financial planning where you sit down and take a holistic, a complete and encompassing look at personal finance. Nicholle and her team sits down with clients and starts each client relationship with an extensive conversation about the dreams, the goals, the values, what the client wants for the future, the why behind that all and then unpacks what needs to happen financially to make those goals a reality.
Holistic Financial Planning is a 180 change in direction if you are someone who has historically practiced the avoidance approach to managing money. You know? The one where you don’t look at what’s happening, cover your eyes and ears and say that you don’t see or hear what’s going on. If this is you, it’s time to seek some help. It’s time to stop thinking about it and actually take action. Look at your finances. Seek a coach, an organization a CFP that resonates with you and start working towards making your goals, dreams, values and what matters most to you a reality.
Nicholle, on this episode of Fulfilled, addresses the common objection of “I’m too busy” that is coming to mind for you as you read this article or tune in to this episode. There is not a perfect time to address your finances. What you are really saying when you say that you are “too busy” is that this isn’t a priority right now… which is OK, but own it and consciously decide that you aren’t willing to work on your money right now, don’t pretend that it’s your schedule. If it matters you’ll find a way and if not you’ll make and excuse.
We dive into negotiation tactics – things like knowing your worth, researching what your current roles and responsibilities are objectively worth in the marketplace, and how to know when to ask for a raise. Nicholle shares some specific negotiation tactics, how to approach these conversations and how it all comes back to knowing your worth!
We wrap up this information and inspiration-filled visit with investing – not in retirement, the stock market, or your kids college 529 accounts – investing in Y.O.U. Here’s the reminder that you are worth the effort, the investment, the coach, the program, the time! You are worth investing in and Nicholle sites this as the only sure thing investment, the only guaranteed return is when we invest in ourselves!
