Our Personal Approach to Managing Money in Partnership
with Dan & Tracy Bingaman
Tune in to Episode 035 of Fulfilled – The Podcast. Today we are chatting with my dear husband Dan about being in relationships and managing money within that partnership. Dan and Tracy have been married for 8 wonderful and crazy years!
We are sharing our story of how we navigated breeching the topic of finances when we were dating. In the early days of our courtship we shared our views on finances, our dreams for the future and started to discuss what things would look like when we ultimately married. What we shared at each stage of the dating game deepened as our relationship became more and more serious. We waited to actually combine our finances until we said “I DO” and from that moment on we completely combined our lives and our checking accounts!
Dan is sharing the husband of the financial fanatic standpoint. We are discussing our strengths and weaknesses around money and communicating around money.
Seasons come and go in marriage and navigating money in that partnership is no different. When we were in the thick of paying off our home mortgage we were really leaning in to that goal and were intense about paying it off ASAP. Now we have different things we are saving for, a different set of goals, and some less intense savings rates.
Dan shares how now that we have conquered that goal of ditching our home mortgage forever, we have established our abilities to do that and we know how to work together to accomplish a goal that matters most to us. Money is reflective of what you value as a couple and as a family. Getting your budget and your spending money in alignment with the things that you value.
We touch on the importance and power of what money can do in your life. We aren’t building wealth for the sake of building wealth, but rather so that we can experience things as a family, change our family tree and give generously!
Getting on the same page with your partner, being able to share the vision for your life and setting goals, both short-term and long-term for your life and your family is a key piece of this puzzle.
Remember to extend grace to yourself, your partner and your budget on this journey. Life is constantly changing and being agile on your feet as you navigate life and money is so important. Navigating big changes in life and in partnership requires communication, patience and revisiting big decisions throughout the time. Tune in to hear a real life take from a real life couple navigating this topic and failing forward!
