What is a Life Coach, anyway?
Ok – today we are going to do a little life coaching 1-on-1. If you’ve been seeing, hearing, curious and wondering about life coaching, this is the episode for you.
First up – what is a life coach? According to VeryWellMind.com a Life Coach is a type of wellness professional who helps people make progress in their lives in order to attain greater fulfillment.
Life coaching is a relatively young field, having originated in the 1960s, with gaining popularity in the 1990s and 2000s!
So essentially a life coach is this person who cares deeply about you, your future and your fulfillment. They are able to offer an outside view, because sometimes, when it comes to your own life, you can’t see the forest for the trees.
They care enough to tell it like it is and, unlike your mother, spouse, sister or best friend, they don’t have a bias because they aren’t involved in your day-to-day life.
So, how does it work? I typically work with clients virtually, as frequently as needed, 1-2 times per week.
I walk my clients through a framework where we first dive into your current situation – how are things going and what are you struggling with. We work through the process of identifying your core values – getting really clear on what matters most to you – then we start to design your ideal life, the strengths and weaknesses that you have and the opportunities and threats to you creating that ideal life.
On each call we will touch base on how things are going this past week, review the action items, journaling and work that you’ve done the previous week, and dive forward into planning.
At the end of my time with clients (typically 3-6 months of weekly meetings) the women that I work with walk away with a specific plan for their life, the goals that they need to accomplish to make that happen, and the confidence that they can make that life a reality now.
What I’ve found is that so many busy moms have resigned themselves that the way things are today is the way they will always be. You are working and your kids are young so there’s no way to have time for you, it’s impossible to create financial freedom and your energy will be in the toilet until they leave for college – INCORRECT!
You might be thinking to yourself “I have a pretty good life, actually” but… you know deep in your heart that things could be better but you either – don’t know HOW to make them better, or you’ve tried it your way and really haven’t gotten to where you want to go.
We work on mindset alongside ditching those limiting beliefs. My goal is for moms who work with me to know their worth and step into the confidence that they are worthy of the best life.
We, together, walk through questions like what does a 5 star day look like in your life? What do you want things to feel like in your life?
Then we work backwards to create a plan to make those things happen.
I see coaching as this way to LEVEL UP your life. You are investing in yourself, your growth and your future.
Just like you had teachers in school and mentors throughout your life who spoke wisdom and ideas, encouragement and showed you the way, a coach can provide similar feedback and input into your life.
