This week on Fulfilled – The Podcast, it’s Episode 007 – an interview with Dr. Candice Myhre, better known as Dr. Surfvival or Dr. Candy or even Dr. Bikini, skyrocketed to instagram fame this past summer after posting a story with the hashtag #medbikini in response to a discriminatory article in the Journal of Vascular Surgery. Quickly going from 300 family followers to 36k followers over the course of 3 days.
Preventing sexism in medicine is a team effort. In order to change things in the future we need to utilize preventative measures – this sounds like classes on sexism, what to do, how to prevent it and how to report it – in training! Gathering the support of our male and female colleagues, a system and collaboration to help encourage reporting, systems, changes that we can make to the healthcare system overall. #MedBikini was just one way to share and show our support of other women in medicine. It’s just the tip of the iceberg!
